Spain: Total consumption of fresh and processed pork exceeded 817,000 tonnes in 2024
The figures show that total consumption of fresh and processed pork in Spain exceeded 817,000 tonnes. This amount consolidates the change in consumption trend that occurred in 2023, a year in which, after several years of decline, pork consumption increased slightly to 807,600 tonnes.
This increase has been largely due to the evolution of household consumption, where pork has grown the most among all meat groups, with a growth of 3.5% in fresh meat and 0.8% in processed meat compared to the previous year. In fact, spending on fresh pork has also experienced the greatest growth among all types of meat purchased by Spanish consumers for home consumption.
An increase that has led to household spending on meat and processed pork products reaching 7.707 billion euros, which represents more than 47% of total spending on meat and meat products and 9.2% of total spending on food and beverages.
INTERPORC highlights that these figures demonstrate both the confidence of consumers in the quality, versatility and high nutritional value that characterise the pork products, as well as the status as a key sector for Spaniards to have access to healthy food.
