EDEKA Nord: Extended cooperation for the NATUR PUR branded meat program

This partnership is special because it covers the entire value chain in northern Germany and thus sustainably strengthens organic farming as well as the local economy and biodiversity. The entire program follows the guiding principle: from the region for the region.

Since 1994, EDEKA Nord has built up the organic brand NATUR PUR in cooperation with Biopark e. V. and the farmers. The "Agriculture for Biodiversity" project was initiated in 2012 by WWF Germany, the organic farming association Biopark and the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Consumer Protection of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Marketing with the resulting nature conservation standard "Agriculture for Biodiversity" within the NATUR PUR program started in 2015 with the animal species beef, veal, pork and lamb, with Fleischwerk EDEKA Nord GmbH and Ludwigsluster Fleisch- und Wurstspezialitäten GmbH & Co. KG as cooperation partners. The range was expanded in 2024 with the nature conservation standard to include chicken - together with Mecklenburger Landpute GmbH - and turkey will follow in 2025.

The close cooperation between the partners in Northern Germany has now resulted in a joint cooperation agreement that secures long-term cooperation and strengthens sustainable, regional meat production.

High-quality meat and sausage quality with responsibility

NATUR PUR stands for the best meat and sausage products in organic quality with long-term added value for people, animals and nature. The animals live on pasture or in stables with plenty of space to roam and are mainly fed the farm's own feed. The NATUR PUR program therefore corresponds to level 5 husbandry. This means consumers can enjoy the best meat quality with a clear conscience.

Partnership for Species Conservation

The aim of the program is to increase the diversity of wild animal and plant species in agricultural habitats and to counteract the decline of native flora and fauna. All NATUR PUR products from this program bear the green "Agriculture for Biodiversity" logo.

Responsible Agriculture with Added Value

Through the program, Biopark farmers undertake additional nature conservation measures that go beyond standard organic farming. The basis is an extensive catalog of services with over 100 options for arable, grassland and landscape elements. The participating farms are inspected annually by independent inspection bodies and certified by Biopark eV.

Consumers actively contribute to species conservation

By purchasing NATUR PUR products, consumers can contribute to preserving biodiversity. They not only support sustainable agriculture, but also the natural diversity of flora and fauna on agricultural land.

With this cooperation, the partners of Biopark e. V., Fleischwerk EDEKA Nord GmbH, LFW Ludwigsluster Fleisch- und Wurstspezialitäten GmbH & Co. KG and Mecklenburger Landpute GmbH are sending a clear signal for sustainable meat production and regional responsibility.
