Brazilian pork shipments grow 6.4 percent in January

Brazilian pork exports totaled 106,000 tons in January, according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). This number is 6.4% higher than the total shipped in the same period last year, with 99,600 tons.

Brazilian pork shipments grow 6.4 percent in January

This is the highest result in the historical series for the month of January, and it is the first time that the sector has recorded volumes above 100,000 tons for the period.

Revenue from pork exports reached US$ 238 million, 19.6% higher than the total obtained in the same period last year, with US$ 199 million.

China was the main importer of pork in the month, with 19.8 thousand tons imported in the period, a balance 14% lower than in the previous year. Next are the Philippines, with 19.5 thousand tons (+58%), Hong Kong, with 9.5 thousand tons (stable), Japan, with 8.1 thousand tons (+87%), Chile, with 7.7 thousand tons (-29%), Singapore, with 6.5 thousand tons (+26%), the United States, 4.7 thousand tons (-9%), Argentine, with 4.4 thousand tons (+379%), Uruguay, with 3.7 thousand tons (+1%), Ivory Coast, with 3.3 thousand tons (+103%) and Vietnam, with 2.8 thousand tons (+127%).

"The Asian markets, led by the Philippines, are expanding their presence among the main destinations for Brazilian exports, sustaining the positive trends and greater market capillarity recorded since the second half of last year", assesses the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.

The main exporting state, Santa Catarina, exported 57.9 thousand tons in January, a volume 4.4% higher than that recorded in the same period of the previous year. Next are Rio Grande do Sul, with 21.5 thousand tons (+1.7%), Paraná, with 13.1 thousand tons (+20.5%), Minas Gerais, with 3.4 thousand tons (+84%) and Mato Grosso, with 3.3 thousand tons (+26.9%).
