Vietnam increased its tuna exports to Portugal
Based on Vietnam customs, VASEP said that the shipments of tuna to Portugal in the first five months of this year accounted for 2.4% of the total value of Vietnamese tuna export.
Compared with the same period in 2017, Vietnam's tuna exports to this market inched up over 262%. In the context in which the country's trade with other EU countries was unstable.
Currently, VASEP places Portugal in the top 10 largest markets for Vietnamese tuna.
Furthermore, VASEP said that companies have boosted the export of other processed tuna products to Portugal in 2018, while last year these products were not available for this market. This year, Vietnamese companies sold processed tuna products worth $3.5 million to the European country.
Vietnamese exports of frozen tuna fillets to the country also rose by over 195% this year.
VASEP added that meanwhile, imports of tuna into Portugal also increased. According to ITC statistics, in the first 4 months of 2018, tuna imports of this country reached nearly 18 thousand MT, worth by nearly US$71 million, up 4% in volume and 24% in value over the same period in 2017.
