Significant decline in Spanish meat exports for November
During November, Spanish meat exports to third countries have declined 23% compared with the same month of 2020. Meat exports outside the EU totalled 172,020 tonnes, well below the figure reported a year ago (223,297 tonnes). Pork exports were the ones that dragged the performance of the Spanish meat industry, with a 26% drop y-o-y. Beef, sheep and goat meat, as well as poultry, have increased the volumes shipped outside the EU. Beef exports to third countries have grown by 18%, totalling 2,837 tonnes. Sheep and goat meat reached a total of 1.560 tonnes (+34%), while poultry exports in November were 20% higher than a year ago, totalling 7,734 tonnes.
For the first 11 months of the year, Spanish meat exports are above the figure reported for the same period last year, 2,019,716 tonnes (+14%). The main destinations for Spanish meat products were China, the Phillippines, Japan, South Korea and the UK, with pork accounting for more than 1,600,000 tonnes shipped into these markets.
