Danish Crown technology nominated for sustainability award

Danish Crown is a co-owner of the company AgroGas, whose technology is predicted to be an important tool in the green transition of agriculture. Therefore, the Danish Brand Suppliers have now nominated the technology for their annual sustainability award, and this pleases AgroGas CEO Peter Foged Larsen.

"We simply receive so much recognition for our technology and results that it gives us great faith in the future of our company and partnership with Danish Crown. I am pleased that people outside of agriculture are also starting to take notice of what we are doing", says Peter Foged Larsen, who passes on a large part of the praise to Danish Crown, which is a close partner. AgroGas is also located at Danish Crown's head office in Randers.

"We are extremely happy with our collaboration with Danish Crown. For example, Sustainability is working on official certifications, and together with them and Ejerservice we are in close dialogue with the farmers. The active ownership from Danish Crown is absolutely crucial for us", says Peter Foged Larsen.

The Branded Goods Suppliers is a commercial interest group for suppliers to the Danish retail trade. It is among MLDK's members that the nominations must be found, and it is therefore formally Danish Crown, which is co-owner of AgroGas, that is nominated for the award.

The preliminary test results of Agrogas' technology show that the total climate footprint of a slaughter pig can be reduced by up to 20 percent, and similar results are expected for cattle.

The technology works by collecting and burning methane from covered slurry tanks, which is converted into CO2 and water, and since methane is a 28 times stronger greenhouse gas than CO2, the climate footprint from the slurry is reduced by over 95 percent in the process.

Today, three plants have been set up at pig farms, and in January, AgroGas reached an agreement with Viking Denmark to set up two new plants at cattle farms.

"We already have inquiries from both farmers and large international companies who are interested in collaborating with us, and I only believe that demand will increase when Aarhus University is expected to validate our test results later this year", says Peter Foged Larsen.

The winner of the sustainability award will be announced on March 6, 2025 at MLDK's big annual meeting at Hotel Crown Plaza in Copenhagen.

Danish Crown is also nominated for another award at MLDK's big annual meeting. Danish Crown's Field Sales Team is nominated for the best sales team of the year.
