Organic eggs recalled in Germany due to salmonella contamination
The company Eifrisch Vermarktung GmbH & Co. KG recalled its organic eggs delivered in boxes of six and 10 through Aldi Sud, Real, Aldi Nord, Lidl, Netto, Kaufland, Edeka and Penny stores in 10 German states.
No illnesses have been reported yet, according to the German authorities. The contamination was discovered during an internal control of the company and the recall affected the egg boxes with a best-before date until 7 July. Affected states are Baden-Württemberg, Bayern, Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Hessen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Niedersachsen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Rheinland-Pfalz, Sachsen and Schleswig-Holstein, informs Food Safety News magazine.
Last month, 70,000 eggs were recalled in Germany due to fipronil contamination. Eggs from an organic laying hen farm in the Netherlands contained the insecticide at a level above EU regulations. In 2017, millions of eggs were recalled from the European market when illegal use of fipronil was revealed in Dutch and Belgian farms.
