Netherlands: Vigilance for bird flu remains necessary

The last bird flu outbreak at a poultry farm in the Netherlands dated from November 21 last year. After that, there had only been an outbreak in ornamental waterfowl on 21 December. It seemed calm and outbreaks did not occur for a long time, perhaps thanks to farmer's efforts and all (hygiene) measures.

The Netherlands Agricultural and Horticultural Association (LTO) therefore continues to call on all poultry farmers and everyone active in the sector to remain extremely vigilant and to continue to apply all necessary hygiene measures.

The visitor ban applies unabated, so do not allow anyone into your stables who has no business there. In neighboring countries such as Belgium, France and Germany, new bird flu outbreaks have also been reported at commercial poultry farms in recent weeks.

Therefore, farmers must pay extra attention to means of transport for poultry returning from abroad. Also, dead wild birds with bird flu are still found in the Netherlands, albeit slightly less in number recently.
