Meat labeling gets tougher rules in the Netherlands
Food safety board in the Netherlands (NVWA) has requested the meat producers to include on the label the volume of water added to the meat and products sold in the country.
The companies have until July 10 to respond to this or to support the consequences. An EU law has required the meat producer inside the block to add water as an ingredient on the label of their products since 2014.
Nevertheless, NVWA has discovered different products that don’t meet this request, as a pack of pangasius that had a 78% of fish mentioned on the label but no references on the water contained by the product, informs de Volkskrant newspaper.
The NVWA told it had found faulty labels in the past and intends to get tough on the food processors that do not respect the law.
