INTERPORC: "We are committed to good nutritional education"

Proof of this are the numerous activities carried out year after year by the Interprofessional, such as scientific symposiums or workshops led by doctors and nutritionists and aimed at all audiences, including children.
During his participation in the Food ED Forum, dedicated on this occasion to health and food quality, Herranz also highlighted the importance of consumers having access to accurate information on food and nutrition, since in this way they will be able to continue adequately "the correct guidelines to have a healthy and balanced diet, which are: choose the foods well, as well as the frequency and quantity in which each one should be consumed".
Herranz has also focused on the fact that in Spain "it is very easy to comply with these guidelines because we have the Mediterranean diet and local foods that allow us to follow it".
The Mediterranean diet, he recalled, is recognized by doctors and nutritionists as one of the healthiest in the world and includes fruits, vegetables, and pork, which provides essential nutrients that we need such as proteins, minerals, and vitamins.
Another element that the director of the Interprofessional has highlighted is that gastronomy is a pillar of a healthy diet structure that is compatible with knowing how to identify what is good. “A healthy diet must be made up of two main types of food, energetic and functional. To these we must add a third fundamental component, the flavor”.
All this is given to us by our culinary heritage because "fortunately in Spain we have a very rich and varied gastronomy," he stated.
The director of INTERPORC explained that "it is not necessary to give up or exclude any food because, in addition, it is much cheaper to eat healthy than to eat badly". And he has given as an example that it is cheaper to eat a Serrano ham toast with tomato and olive oil than any ultra-processed food.
At this point, he referred to vegetable products that imitate meat, recalling that "they are ultra-processed foods, of low biological value, that do not have the same nutritional characteristics as natural vegetables, much less the nutritional properties of meat products" .
For this reason, as a conclusion, Herranz said that “without a doubt, the food of the future is the food that we have been carrying out all our lives. We simply have to take care that the consumer has quality food available and knows how to choose the most appropriate to follow a healthy and balanced diet”.
