Greece bans Bulgarian pork imports
Greece has banned the pork imports from Bulgaria due to ASF situation, announced the Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture, Dessislava Taneva. 21 new outbreaks have been reported in the country in the last couple of months, with 50,000 pigs culled. Three of the country's districts, Plevna, Razgrad and Ruse, have been declared the state of emergency as the disease keeps spreading.
Bulgaria has 1.2 million pigs raised in farms and the industry is evaluated at $344 million. Officials are considering losses up to $1 billion if the virus keeps spreading. Border controls to Greece are to intensified and the traveller's luggage will be inspected to prevent pig meat transportation abroad.
