Coop Netherlands launches new biodegradable meat packaging
Coop will introduce biodegradable packaging made from vegetable raw materials, namely dextrose and lactic acid, which are completely renewable. The packaging is approved according to the EN13432 standard.
The retailer says that over one million packages per year are no longer on the plastic doc, but can now be composted.
"Our challenge now is to inform our customers about the fact that the packages are really biodegradable and to turn them into the GFT bin. We spread this message through different channels, including the packaging of organic meat, " Wim van den Burg, Manager at Coop, said.
Coop expects that by mid-October this year it will replace all batches of organic meat with a biodegradable alternative.
