Belarus signs primary agreement for meat exports to UAE
A first step for opening a new market for Belarusian meat in the Middle East was taken at the beginning of this month when Belarus and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed on veterinary certificates necessary to start export operations, informs BelTA.
"During yesterday's meeting with a representative of the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, the parties agreed upon veterinary certificates for milk and dairy products, meat and meat products, as well as honey and a broad assortment of ready-made food products. This will allow the unobstructed access of Belarusian food products to the UAE market. The coordination of the form and essence of the veterinary certificates implies deliveries and mutual trust of veterinary services. This is a big achievement in trade relations" confirmed Aleksei Bogdanov, Head of the Central Office for Foreign Economic Activities of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.
A visit from UAE representatives of Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology to the ex-USSR country is expected to take place in the near future in order to certify as Halal compliant five poultry farms and three processing facilities in Belarus.
Also, UAE authorities have mentioned their interest for Belarusian food industry. "Apart from that, we have agreed with the UAE's state company Emirates Future to step up cooperation in trade and investments after the Belarusian companies receive the Halal certificate", said Bogdanov.
Since last year, Belarus has managed to get the green light for beef and poultry exports to China and is looking further to diversify its export food markets.
