As the global meat trade crosses a turbulent period, is time for the third largest pork exporter in the world to be bold in approaching the Chinese market.

Interporc Spain is prepared to set a clear footprint on the Chinese market, as Daniel de Miquel, International Manager of the association, told EuroMeatNews in an interview taken in Barcelona at the Alimentaria 2018.

“We will be there! We will accompany the main pork exporters to China. Last year we reached around 2 million tons of pork exports on global markets. It’s one of our challenges, at this time, to increase and to improve our position in those third markets. 2018 can be a good year for the pork producer in Spain but e will have to very strong. We have to fight against our main competitors and we have to defend our EU model of production that we think it has differential value in terms of animal welfare and traceability ”, said de Miquel.

The Spanish market may not look so promising for the pork producers in the country but the exports are doing quite well for now and there are some elements that can justify this evolution.

“The production in Spain is growing because we are able to provide a sustainable model of production, we have a rigorous system of traceability and there is a huge demand from the third countries. Livestock segment is aware of this and is trying to produce some pork products with the best food safety, traceability and being respectful to the environment. These are the most important differential values of our pork production”, explained the Interporc representative.
