Welsh meat and fisheries sector to receive £3M to prepare for Brexit

The red meat sector in Wales will receive £2.15 million from the from the Welsh Government's EU Transition Fund which amounts to £50 million. This funding aims to support farmers in identifying "improvements to their businesses to help them become more competitive and in a better position to trade profitably following Brexit," the government's statement read.

In addition, the authorities will also finance an import substitution project that is dedicated to identifying and securing supply chains within the UK and encourage companies from the EU to set up their operations in Wales.

As for the fishing and aquaculture industries, the Government will help finance the sector for the next two years in order to help it find new markets and prepare it for future trading outside the EU.

“Brexit presents a series of challenges and opportunities for our agriculture and fisheries industries. The funding I am announcing today from our EU Transition Fund will provide vitally needed support. As a Government we will do all we can to help these important industries prepare for a post-Brexit world," the First Minister said during an event organized by the Farmer’s Union of Wales AGM in Aberystwyth.
