Weaner prices continue to decrease in the EU
Millie Askew, a senior analyst at AHDB, says that " the current quote is now just €4.44/head above year earlier levels compared to nearly €19/head higher on the year in the week ending 28 May."
In the first semester of this year, the prices for weaners in the EU increased, being driven by a balanced demand and a tighter pig meat supply.
Spanish weaner prices reported the most significant fall at the EU level, decreasing by 27 euros to 29.86 euros per head in the week ending 27 August. Following Spain in the same period was France with a decline in weaner prices of 15.40 euros to 29 euros per head and the Netherlands where the prices fell by 13 euros to 42.50 euros per head.
Germany, the largest pig meat producer from the EU, saw a small decrease since May by only 5.90 euros to 62.40 euros per head. In Denmark, during the same period, the prices fell by 3.60 euros to 47.73 euros per head.
