Vion changes to new food standard
Vion has become the world's first company to get the IFS Product Integrity Assessment (PIA) certification, a new food standard created to respond to challenges such as food fraud incidents. "Food fraud incidents have made producers, consumers and governments more critical and have significantly affected confidence in food products. Legal requirements have been tightened and the pressure on food integrity has increased. As a retailer or a consumer, you want to be sure that a supplier can deliver products that meet your product integrity requirements and specifications. This is possible with IFS PIA: to realise delivering trusted products, products the consumer can rely on," said the company in a press release.
The standard was created last year and Vion was part of the team that worked to set the standard which is fit for assessment. Test assessments were carried out, including a Vion production plant which was already certified against the Dutch CBL Chain of Custody integrity standard.
The IFS standard was finalised in 2019, the first IFS PIA audit was successfully carried out at Vion in Boxtel. Lloyds Register assessed Vion during a 2-day assessment with a specific focus on product and process integrity. Vion has planned to certify all Dutch Vion plants to IFS PIA during 2020.
