Vietnam's processed cephalopod exports to ASEAN on the rise

Cephalopod exports from Vietnam to ASEAN reached US$59.6 million in the first 10 months of 2017, with a year-over-year increase of 47%, according to statistics from Vietnam CUstoms analyzed by VASEP.

Analysts from VASEP say that except for June, the cephalopod exports reported a two-digit year-on-year growth starting in February 2017.

ASEAN represented the fourth biggest importer of Vietnamese cephalopods, "representing 11.5% of total cephalopod export value."

Furthermore, ASEAN increased imports of squid from Vietnam. Vietnam squid sales to ASEAN took up over 95% of total cephalopod exports to the market.

From ASEAN, Thailand represented the largest market for Vietnam's cephalopod exports, having imported nearly 77% of the total cephalopod exported to this region. VASEP says that Thailand imported over US$44 million of Vietnam cephalopod in the first 10 months from 2017, up by 36.3% year on year.
