Vietnam's pangasius exports to the Middle East increased sharply
During the first 6 months of 2018, UAE has replaced Saudi Arabia as the main importer of Vietnamese pangasius in the Middle East area.
The country has increased its demand for this item to a three-digit growth compared with last year, according to Vietnam Association Seafood Exporters and Producers data.
Last year, UAE ranked as the third largest importer of Vietnamese pangasius in the Middle East, totalling $23 million, but this year the situation has changed.
In the first 6 months of 2018, the export value of pangasius to this market increased sharply. In the first two months, exports increased from 28-66.3%. As of March 2018, the export value increased from 117% to 221% over the same period in 2017.
The value of pangasius exports to UAE has already reached $27 million by the end of June, up 17.4% over the full year 2017 and up 130.7% over the same period last year. According to VASEP's analysts, the demand for imports of pangasius in this market remains stable for the second half of 2018 leading to a positive growth in sales. At the same time, an increase in exports has been reported to other countries in the area, such as Egypt.
