Vietnam's cephalopod exports on a downward trend in August
Still, VASEP explained that thanks to the good growth reported in the previous months, the total export value increased by 3.5% between January and August this year, reaching US$417 million.
Vietnam's main importer of cephalopods remained South Korea. Exports to this country were up 19% in August compared to the same month in 2017, reaching US$26 million. The estimated value of the total export to this country in the first eight months of the year reached US$155 million, up 14% over the same period last year.
Japan imported 12% less cephalopods from Vietnam in August compared to the same month in 2017, exports to this country reaching US$14.5 million. On the other hand, the total exports from January to August reached US$95 million, with an increase of 0.7%.
Vietnam's cephalopod exports to the EU were impacted by the "yellow card" warning. The country exported 24% less in August compared to August 2017, reaching a value of US$ 7.8 million.
VASEP said that the total export value of cephalopod to the bloc in the first eight months of the year decreased by 26% over the same period, reaching US$54 million.
In August, Vietnam’s cephalopod sales to ASEAN recovered and reached US$8.2 million, up 6.7% compared with August 2017; the figure in the first eight months of the year was nearly US$54 million, up 18% from a year before.
Meanwhile, exports to China were down 57% in August, reaching US$3.7 million. On the other hand, in the first eight months of the year, exports to this Asian country increased by 14%, reaching nearly US$34 million.
