Vietnam wants to trademark some of its seafood

The best selling seafood products from Vietnam could be soon part of a process of building national trademarks for them. In this category, pangasius and shrimps are leading the top of the items that are getting a lot of attention from Vietnamese authorities.
Seafood exports have reached $2.5 billion in the first four months of this year, up 14% compared with the same period of last year. In 2017, Vietnam has earned $8.5 billion from seafood exports on 139 markets around the globe. This year the industry is expected to bring about $10 billion in the country, up 20% annually.
Since 2017, pangasius has been confronted with some difficulties on different markets inside EU and US: anti-dumping tax, technical barriers, the EU’s yellow card warning.
Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) General Secretary Truong Dinh Hoe said that the association and the business community have taken measures to promote the country’s two key aquatic products.
Hoe said VASEP will accelerate trade promotion, market expansion and popularise the image of Vietnam’s fishery products.
