Vietnam reports slowdown in tuna export growth in September

Vietnam reported an increase of only 1.4% for its tuna exports in September compared to year-earlier levels, according to the data published by the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

VASEP said that the country's tuna exports reported unstable growth this year with the rate reaching 20.4% in August and 2.1% in July.

Still the Vietnamese association adds that there was important growth reported in a number of markets such as Spain and Canada.

In September alone, Vietnam exported US$53 million worth of tuna products to the markets, bringing the total export value in the first nine months to nearly US$474 million, increasing by 10.3% over the same period in 2017.

Vietnam's exports of tuna to the European Union slowed down in September. The growth rate slipped from 47% in August to 1.3% in September.

Still, for the first nine months of 2018, tuna exports to the market this year has grown well by 22% over the same period in 2017, reaching US$118 million.
