Vaccine lottery of $10,000 weekly at Tyson's plants
There is a gold rush in almost 50 poultry processing units owned by Tyson Foods in the US. The company is offering $10,000 each week for the next five weeks for the lucky winners that enter the vaccine lottery started among employees. Earlier this month, Tyson stated that every employee in the US should be vaccinated against Covid-19 by November 1st. In that announcement, the company said it would pay each worker $200 to get the vaccine, which is in addition to its previous policy of offering up to four hours of pay if they have to get the jab outside their normal work hours or away from a Tyson location.
Now, a new way to convince workers in its plants seems to be adopted by the giant meat processor. "Only employees at the company's chicken plants are eligible for the $10,000 giveaway, but Tyson's prepared foods, beef and pork plants are offering other monetary incentives", spokesperson Derek Burleson declared for Axios magazine.
Tyson employs 139,000 people, most of them in the US, with about 24,000 in Arkansas alone. So far, about 56,000 of them have received the vaccine. Since the beginning of the year, Tyson has hosted about 100 onsite vaccination clinics at its plants.
