UK opens the Mexican pork market

The Mexican pork market is now ready to receive product from Great Britain. This is the first experience that UK exporters will have in Mexico and negotiations have been

ongoing for almost 4 years.
Access to the Mexican market is estimated to provide a potential boost of 50 million GBP (more than 58 million at current exchange rates) for UK pork producers during the first

five years of trade.

As noted by AHDB, “this is another success for UK food and beverage exports, after the successes achieved in accessing UK beef to the United States, UK poultry United, beef

and lamb to Japan, and pork to Taiwan ”.

Dr Richard Irvine, Deputy Chief Veterinarian of the United Kingdom, has clarified that "the United Kingdom and Mexico have committed to start negotiating an ambitious new free

trade agreement this year, which will go far beyond the existing agreement. These Negotiations will complement our adherence to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement

for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), an increasingly influential trade network of 11 dynamic economies spanning from the Indo-Pacific region to the Americas. "
