Tyson Foods postponed building its new poultry facility

The company's project was initially supported by Kansas' government, but after a meeting of Leavenworth County commissioners, the authorities decided to withdrawal from the deal.

“We still have interest in Leavenworth County, but will prioritize the other locations in Kansas and other states that have expressed support,” Tyson's open letter read. “We’d still like to get to know each other, however, after Monday’s reversal of support by the Leavenworth County commissioners, we will put our plans in your community on hold.”

In early September, Tyson Foods announced that it planned to invest 320 million dollars in building a poultry complex in eastern Kansas as demand for chicken increased.

The capacity of the poultry plant is planned to reach 1.25 million birds per week, which would increase Tyson Foods' overall production capacity. The annual economic benefit for the Kansas state from the construction of the new plant would reach nearly 150 million dollars.
