Tyson Foods plans thousands of COVID-19 tests per week
Tyson Foods announced that intends to intensify the security measures in its US plants by doing thousands of COVID-19 tests weekly. The company owns 140 facilities in the country and many others across the globe. In the US, the number of Tyson's employees is 120,000 and the company accounts for 20% of the beef, poultry and pork produced in this market.
Last month, China suspended poultry imports from a Tyson plant in Arkansas due to coronavirus concern, informs KATV. The meat industry in the US was hardly hit by COVID-19 outbreaks, with 16,210 meatpacking workers reported as infected or exposed to the virus and 93 deaths. To complete the new task, Tyson Foods will add 200 nurses to its medical team of 400. The tests will be performed randomly on employees who have no symptoms, as well as those with symptoms. Workers will also be tested if they were near someone who tested positive or displayed symptoms.
