Two new ASF cases reported in Lithuania
The State Food and Veterinary Service of the Republic of Lithuania has announced that two new outbreaks of ASF were detected in the Šiauliai and Joniskis districts.
The disease has killed 13 pigs from a farm in the Šiauliai region, and one sow and three other fattening pigs were infected.
On a farm in the Yoniska district, a farmer killed one of its pigs and sent samples of meat to the National Institute for the Assessment of Food and Veterinary Risks to test it. Experts determined that the animal was infected.
The veterinarian authority said that these are already the 44th and 45th cases reported this year.
Since the beginning of this year, more than 22.4 thousand pigs have died in the country because of the disease.
As reported by piginfo.ru, earlier this month, the Lithuanian minister of Agriculture Giedrius Surplis suggested that Lithuanian farmers abandon pig production, and instead of pigs raise rabbits and turkeys.
