Two cases of Avian Influenza H5N8 disease were reported in Al-Kharj governorate, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture announced this week.

Two bird flu cases reported in Saudi Arabia

 

Saudi authorities said the number of samples collected from accross the Kingdom after the first case was reported reached 12,829 from which 171 tested AI positive.

H5N8 is highly pathogenic to birds (high death rates). The virus was first discovered in 1983 and since then outbreaks were reported all around the world.
