Turkey's poultry production is decreasing
Poultry production in Turkey is following a descending trend, with chicken meat dropping in May by 3.3% compared with the same month last year and turkey meat going down by 32.4%.
Chicken meat production was 193,330 tonnes while turkey meat reached a production volume of 4,656 tonnes. On a monthly basis, chicken meat production was up 8% from the previous month and turkey increased by 2.1%, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute.
The number of slaughtered chicken was 109 million while turkey reached a level of 458,000 birds. The number of slaughtered chicken increased by 8.3% in May compared with the previous month and decreased by 5.7% compared with the same month of the previous year. The number of slaughtered turkey increased by 1.6% in May compared with the previous month and decreased by 26% compared with the same month of the previous year.
Egg production has reached 1.6 billion units, dropping by 1.2% compared with April and increasing by 1.2% from the level registered in May 2018.
