The US, Australia and Argentina ranked as top three meat-eating countries
The US is the country of meat lovers, ranking No. 1 in a top comprising the main meat-eating countries in the world. According to data gathered by Statista in 2018, meat consumption in the US reaches 99 kilos, with poultry (chicken meat) being the most consumed animal protein among Americans (50 kg). It is followed by beef (26.3 kg) and pork (23 kg).
The Americans are closely followed by Australians (92 kg) and Argentinians (89.8 kg). However, the Argentinian model of consumption has changed drastically in the last couple of years, switching from beef to poultry as the purchasing power in the country has dropped and beef prices have spiked due to increased demand from China in 2019.
The top also comprises Israel (88.5 kg), Brazil (77 kg), New Zealand (74.8 kg), Chile (74.3 kg) and Canada wit per capita consumption of 69 kg. With the exception of Israel, the rest of the countries are also main producers of meat and have a culture on meat consumption.
