The Philippines bans pork imports from Japan

A ban regarding pork and pork products coming from Japan was temporarily imposed by the Philippines as a security measure taken against the ASF virus. All quarantine officers in ports of entry all over the country are directed to implement the directive immediately. The quarantine officers are also advised to review their quarantine protocols, including the foot baths installed at the ports of entry and the monitoring of all meat products being brought into the country by tourists," declared the country's Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Pinol, according to Phil Star magazine.
Japan has reported seven cases of pork containing the ASF virus in its airports on meals and snacks carried by tourists. The Philippines has already placed a ban for pork imports from 13 countries: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Moldova, South Africa, Zambia, Belgium, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Hungary and China in an attempt to protect its $3.8 billion worth pig industry.
In Asia, ASF outbreaks have been reported in China (105 outbreaks detected in 25 provinces) and Mongolia (10 outbreaks in six provinces), according to the latest FAO Animal Health update on this issue.
