Spanish Animal Welfare certification to be posted in 30,000 stores
Almost 30,000 meat points of sale in Spain will post the Animal Welfare certification as INTERPORC and CEDECARNE have signed an agreement to point out the establishments that guarantee to meet the highest standards of animal welfare in terms of meat and products derived from white-coated pigs. María Sanchez, general secretary of CEDECARNE, considers that specialized butcher and delicatessen establishments “thus acquire a further commitment to sustainability and to the consumer, being aware that animal welfare and food safety are one of the basic pillars of the values ??for which we have always bet from the organization ”.
According to her, thanks to the certification, now the professionals "can be participants in a protocol that has been developed by the entire chain and that also emphasizes our proximity and excellent treatment of the product." In addition, it considers that "it will give more value, if possible, to pork products." To obtain the certification, the companies that request it ensure that they comply with the Technical Regulation of Animal Welfare and Biosecurity developed by INTERPORC. According to the director of INTERPORC, Alberto Herranz, the Regulation "is technically impeccable" since it has been carried out in collaboration with companies in the sector, certifiers, administration, scientists and experts in animal welfare, and is also endorsed by a Scientific Committee independent and has been presented to large retailers and organizations for the protection and defense of animals.
