Spain's pig exports already exceeded 2 billion euros in May
The main destination for Spain's pork exports continues to be China, accounting for more than 17% of total hog sales, with 151,935 tons; followed by France, with 135,440 tons; Italy, with 77,788 tons; Japan, with 50,141 tons; and Portugal, with 46,762 tons. Interporc also noticed a significant increase in pig sales to countries such as Hungary (+46.8%), Romania (+29.2%) or the Philippines and Japan (+22% both).
On the other hand, Spain got its biggest turnover from France, with 360.2 million euros worth of purchases, followed by China with 248.5 million euros, and Italy with 163.7 million euros. Portugal occupies the fourth place, from which the turnover increased by 6.4% to over 132 million euros, Germany was on the fifth spot (104.6 million euros), followed by the United Kingdom and South Korea on the sixth and seventh positions, with 94.4 million euros, and 73.9 million euros respectively.
Analysts from Interporc noticed an increase in sales value in Hungary, which jumped 96.4 %, to 27.9 million euros, preceded by Philippines, where sales reached 30 million euros, 59.6% more, and Romania that exceeded 40 million euros with an increase of 58.7%, compared to the first five months of 2016.
In terms of types of products, sales were led by fresh, chilled and frozen meat, with 638,446 tons (+2%) and 1,523 million euros (+22.6%) in January and May.
Exports of live animals reached 56,462 tons, with most of the sales taking place in the European Union countries, especially in Portugal (39,633 t), Germany (28,402 t), and Italy (10,502 t).
