Several Spanish provinces have been declared unharmed by various animal diseases

25 year of continuous effort in keeping away various animal diseases inside Spain provinces is paying off. Several Spanish provinces and CCAA have been declared officially unharmed by various animal diseases by the Standing Committee on Plant Health, Animal Health, Food and Feed of the European Union (PAFF). Specifically, the diseases considered are ovine and caprine brucellosis, bovine brucellosis and bovine tuberculosis.
According to CdeComunicacion website, the zones are the following:
- Ovine and caprine brucellosis
Madrid Province
Province of Cadiz
Province of Ciudad Real
- Bovine brucellosis
Madrid Province
Autonomous Community of Valencia
Province of Almeria
Province of Granada
Province of Jaen
- Bovine tuberculosis
Province of Pontevedra.

The declarations as officially free regions will be effective once they are published by Decision in the Official Journal of the European Union (DOUE) and are a recognition of the effort made by Spain in the fight against these diseases, in little more than 25 years of application homogeneous of these programs, from the beginning of the livestock sanitation campaigns.
These declarations will be added to those made in previous years, with which at present there are already 14 Autonomous Communities and 5 provinces declared as free from ovine and caprine brucellosis, and 12 Autonomous Communities and 7 provinces declared as free from bovine brucellosis.
The declaration of Pontevedra stands out as the first officially intact peninsular province of bovine tuberculosis, which is added to the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, which was declared as such at the beginning of 2017.
In order to access this sanitary status, a region or province must remain below 0.1% of infected herds and have 99.9% of farms rated as officially unharmed for 6 consecutive years.
