Seafood exports from Norway are going up

Norway's seafood exports are increasing in the first month of this year, compared to the same period of 2017. Last month, seafood exports from Norway reached 198,000 tonnes worth almost 1 billion dollars, representing a 13% increase in terms of volume and a 2% growth in value, as reported by Norwegian Seafood Council.
"The growth in value seen in Norwegian seafood exports in January is due to whitefish products. At the same time, it is gratifying to see that exports to the EU market have shown strong growth in volume and at historically high prices", mentioned Asbjørn Warvik Rørtveit, Director for Market Insight and Access with the Norwegian Seafood Council.
France has increased the imports of seafood since the beginning of this year and China is buying more Norwegian salmon than January 2017. Inside EU, Norway is exporting most of the salmon to Poland, France and Denmark.
There has been also an increase in trout exports, with the USA, China and Canada being the largest markets for this product and a rise in exports of clipfish to Brazil. Salted fish exports are on the same level as in January last year (1,000 tonnes), the herring exports have grown with 33% in terms of volume while the mackerel exports decreased with 20% in terms of volume and value.
