Scan-Hide will sell traceable leather to the furniture and fashion industry
Two years ago, Scan-Hide established the SPOOR brand to sell cattle hides to the leather industry, where there is full traceability all the way back to the farmer. Interest in the concept has been constantly increasing, which is why Scan-Hide is now taking the next step and buying all activities of Trendline, one of the Nordics' leading players in the sale of leather to the furniture industry.
"Trendline, SPOOR, Scan-Hide and Danish Crown are a perfect match. As the first in the world, we can take responsibility for ensuring transparency throughout the chain, from the farmer to the manufacturer of furniture, bags or shoes. At the same time, we are the only ones who can offer full traceability and provide documentation of accountability at all stages, and this gives us a unique market position," says Michael Søndergaard, who is the managing director of Scan-Hide, headquartered in Vester Skerninge on Funen.
The Viborg company Trendline has a long history as a supplier of leather. The company was founded in 2000 and is owned by the founder Klaus Væsel. Based on in-depth industry knowledge, he has created a solid company that has a very close collaboration with customers as its DNA.
"It has been a dream of mine for a number of years to be able to focus the business on leather produced from Danish and Northern European cattle hides. Especially Danish and Northern European cattle hides are internationally recognized for having a very high quality. At the same time, through SPOOR, we are the only ones who can offer full traceability on a large scale, so I am very much looking forward to seeing Nordic SPOOR grow in the coming years," says Klaus Væsel, who continues as day-to-day manager of sales and development.
The purchase of the activities in Trendline is completely in line with Scan-Hide's and Danish Crown's Feeding the Future strategy. The core of it is about increasing the value of the unit owners' raw materials. This must be done through refinement and expansion of the value chain, so that you get closer to consumers. Animal skins are a by-product of dairy and meat production. With the purchase of the activities in Trendline, the processing of cattle hides into finished leather now becomes a corresponding value chain for the benefit of both the farmers and the players in the fashion and furniture industry.
"We see great potential in Nordic SPOOR. The business model is proven, and there are plenty of opportunities to create growth in the coming years. At the same time, it is absolutely central that we can link Trendline's activities directly to our current organization and thus avoid a complicated integration. Therefore, we have no doubt that the purchase of Trendline will contribute positively to our business from day one, to the delight of Danish Crown's owners, the Danish farmers," says Finn Klostermann, CEO of Danish Crown Beef and chairman of the board of Scan -Hide.
