Salmonella detected in frozen salted chicken from Brazil
Different volumes of frozen salted chicken half breasts from Brazil were blocked at the borders of Germany and The Netherlands as food inspectors discovered that were infected with salmonella (25g).
The two European countries reported six events of this kind, registered between 21 and 27 of February, all of them regarding the same type of poultry product originated from Brazil. The products were subject to border rejection and the cases were classified as posing serious risks for the consumers in these countries, informs the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) portal.
Since July 2017, the European Commission (EC) imposed lab controls for every batch of poultry products imported from the South American country following a scandal known as "the rotten meat scandal" that affected the Brazilian meat industry.
New rules on eliminating third parties involved in the trade affairs between Brazil and EU were supposed to be discussed at the EC Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (SCoPAFF) meeting programmed for February 28-1st of March. Meantime, EU officials have decided to postpone the meeting until April.
