Romania produced 5.5 percent more poultry in 2023
In 2023, 321.8 million poultry were slaughtered, up from the 310.4 million recorded in 2022.
The production of sheep and goat meat registered an increase, from 62,413 tons in 2022, to 89,079 tons of carcass in 2023, and the number of slaughtered animals increased from 6.27 million heads in 2022, to over 7.66 million in 2023.
Regarding beef production, last year it totaled 82,268 tons, a slight decrease of 0.4% compared to 2022, when a quantity of 82,640 tons was reported.
The number of slaughtered cattle reached 507,000 heads in 2023, compared to 615,000 in the same period of 2022.
According to NIS data, pork production decreased by about 4%, from 334,975 tons of carcass in 2022, to 331,022 tons last year.
During the analyzed period, 3.74 million pigs were slaughtered, down from 2022, when 3.69 million heads were reported.
In December 2023, compared to December 2022, the number of slaughters increased for cattle and decreased for pigs, sheep and goats and poultry, and the carcass weight increased for cattle and sheep and goats, and for pigs and poultry fell.
