Portuguese indigenous breeds get EU support for exports
Portuguese beef gets a chance to conquer new markets thanks to a project focused on how to potentiate the differentiation of Portuguese endogenous products and trigger the demand for products of recognized quality with Protected Denomination of Origin (PDO), whose production is developed from a diet in natural pastures.
"The aim of the Portuguese Beef brand is to make the Portuguese indigenous breeds (especially the Arouquesa, Barrosã, Cachena, Marinhoa, Maronesa, Minhota, and Mirandesa breeds) known and promoted. The latter was present at the International Food Show (SIAL) in Paris last October for this purpose. We also organized the event Portuguese Beef Tasting at a restaurant in Créteil to taste the meat of seven Portuguese indigenous breeds", mentioned Catarina Borges, Technical Manager of the project.
These two actions are an integral part of the internationalization project of the "Portuguese Beef" project, co-financed by the Operational Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization of Portugal 2020, within the scope of the Support System for Collective Actions (SIAC), an investment of €426,637.00, 85% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
"The aim of the brand dissemination project is to potentiate the differentiation of Portuguese endogenous products and trigger the demand for products of recognized quality with Protected Denomination of Origin (PDO), whose production is developed from a diet in natural pastures. It also enables the development of exports and the creation of jobs, combining tradition and authenticity with innovation", added Mrs. Borges.
