Polish Vet Inspectors are protesting in the streets

Hundreds of employees of Polish Veterinary Inspection Service are protesting against the lack of funds necessary to cover the lack of personnel. The first blockade was on one of the roads in the Greater Poland Voivodeship. The locks were also planned in four other locations. At 9 o'clock, the blockade of the national road No. 22 in Wacmierek (Tczew County, Pomeranian province) started for two hours. Between 10 and 12, the unionists plan to block the provincial road No. 676 in Bialystok. Protests will also take place in Wroc?aw and in Katowice, according to Farmer magazine.
The protest of employees of the Veterinary Inspection is aimed at drawing the attention of the Ministry of Agriculture to the burning problems of this service. The main requirement is the transfer of PLN4o million (€ 9.4 million) promised by the ministry for employees of the Inspection. Among other things, unionists ask for the unification of procedures and systemic approach to the work of this institution.
Last year, local authorities in Poland complained about the lack of personnel in the areas affected by the ASF virus. 500 veterinary and action inspectors were needed to cover the inspections in pig farms across the country.
