Poland's pork production on an upward trend

The growth was based on a rise in slaughterings during the mentioned period, up 5% to a total of 13.2 million head, according to the Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).

Tom Forshaw, analyst at AHDB, said also that an important factor that sustains the increased production is the continuing increase of imports of live piglets for fattening.

Live imports of animals weighing less than 50kg are up in the year to June, by 20% and total 3.3 million head. Around 87% of these have been sourced from Denmark, with Germany making up a further 9%.
