Poland to become EU's leading turkey producer
The country occupies the second position in the top EU turkey producers after Germany, which was the only country to report higher industrial slaughter rates, Meatinfo.ru reports.
Poland has overtaken France in the production of turkey meat. Between 2015 and 2016 the country became one of the three leading turkey producers in the EU. In 2017, its production decreased slightly because of the avian influenza virus.
"If we assume that the growth rate will be as high as in recent years, we can become the largest producer of turkey meat in Europe, overtaking Germany," the director of the National Chamber of Poultry Breeding said.
In the first four months of this year, Germany produced 162,000 tons of turkey meat. Poland is the second (128,000 tons) producer in the EU, followed by France (113,000 tons), Italy (97,000 tons), Spain (76,000 tons) and the United Kingdom (57,000 tons).
