Pig prices in UK lower than year earlier levels

AHDB trainee analyst Abigail Schofield says estimated slaughterings for the most recent week totalled 186,300 head.
Although this is a slight decline of 3% on the week, it was 9% ahead of year earlier levels and is contributing to the depressed price compared to last year.

Carcase weights recorded a 900g dip on the week, averaging at 83.56kg. This is around 300g below the equivalent week last year and will have offset some of the increase in supply.
