Philippine exporters need to respond to a new halal scheme

The unified Halal system developed by the United Arab Emirates needs to be adopted by the exporters if they want to have access to that market and several others in the region, mentioned Philippine Export Management Bureau (EMB) Director, Senen Perlada.
Recently, Philippine Accreditation Bureau (PAB) and the United Arab Emirates-Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (UAE-ESMA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to facilitate halal certification for Philippine exporters to the UAE. Under the memorandum of understanding (MOU), those halal certification bodies that will be accredited by PAB are automatically recognized by the UAE, informs Philippine News Agency.
"It will be free of any significant barriers. It will not be retested and will have no additional certification. Before they’re paying for several certificates, now they are only paying for one certificate", confirmed Abdullah Abdelqader Al Maeeni, General Director of UAE-ESMA.
Under the UAE's new halal scheme, the halal-certified products can access several markets in the region, such as Oman, Qatar, Yemen or Saudi Arabia. Filipino meat exports in the Gulf area is comprising corned beef, chicken nuggets, and Peking duck.
