Perdue is stepping into plant-based protein market
Perdue is ready to change its approach on the food market by developing new plant-based products, reports Veg News magazine.
"Our vision is to be the most trusted name in premium protein. It doesn’t say premium meat protein, just premium protein. That’s where consumers are going", explained Jim Perdue, grandson of the founder of Perdue and chairman of the company.
Similar decisions have been taken by Tyson and Cargill, both companies changing their business model from meat to "protein" in a move that tends to cover a new segment in the food market.
At the same time, Tyson Foods and Cargill are interested in lab-grown meat and have already made investments in this field by joining Memphis Meats and Future Meat Technologies. According to sources inside Perdue Foods, a decision to follow that path is to be made soon.
