PROVACUNO launches its own seal for animal welfare
PROVACUNO has presented PAWS, its seal of animal welfare. This reference, which is based on the certification accredited by the National Accreditation Entity (ENAC), has been developed for the Spanish Society for Animal Protection (SEPROBA), experts in certification, and by a multidisciplinary scientific committee. In addition, the technical teams of the production and industry organizations that make up PROVACUNO, and consumer and animal protection associations have also participated.
From PROVACUNO they have been "very proud, both of the development of this Reference, the most technically complete, serious, objective and rigorous in the world, and of the participation of ENAC that provides the maximum national and international credibility to the certification process", such and as Eliseo Isla, president of the Interprofessional, has stated for the Carnica magazine.
With this seal, the beef sector seeks the objective assessment of the influence that the conditions and the management of a farm have on the welfare of the animals and their close relationship with their quality of life. "It seeks to analyze, in addition to the situation of the animals, their entire environment in a global way", said Provacuno in a press release.
With this holistic approach, numerous on-farm welfare indicators have been selected that are assessed using descriptive variables of the environment, production and animal behavior. The continuous assessment with the exhaustive monitoring of how the operations prior to slaughter are carried out and the correct performance of the same. From this point, the scheme contemplates that the information service of the handling conditions of the animals continues with control of traceability of the product in the slaughter centers and processing industries.
PROVACUNO, in its primary objective of support and service to the sector, has given this reference free of charge, for its use and employment in production, industry and processing centers, to the certifiers that have requested it, provided that they meet a series of requirements. Among others, have a valid ENAC accreditation for the scope of agri-food product while obtaining the definitive authorization with the accredited PROVACUNO reference.
