Organic food market in the UK is worth 2.2 billion pounds

After six years of continuous growing organic food and beverage market in the UK is estimated at 2.2 billion pounds by certifying authority in Britain, the Soil Association.

Organic dairy products have a market share of 28.7%, fruits and vegetables are following with a 24% market share while Meat, poultry and fish accounts for 10.2%, informs Food Navigator, quoting a report presented by the association.

Every category of products mentioned above has registered a year-to-year growth, said the report. A survey carried on a small number of consumers with ages 10-55 shows that there are six key trends behind the increase of organic food consumption, as mentioned Clare McDermott, Business Development Director at Soil Association.
Healthiness; Taste and inspiration; Fits around me; Pleasure; Value; and Making a statement are the qualities that British consumers require from their food and organic products seem to respond to all six of them.
Some other factors that could influence the consumer decision are British provenience; meat reduction and vegetarianism; milk alternatives; concerns about food production and the Instagram culture.
"Organic is well placed to answer the six key beliefs and, in particular, organic is clearly becoming a signpost to health", declared McDermott. In her opinion, organic food has become more and more available and the effect is seen in the growth of independent retailers and home delivery systems who outpaced the traditional retailers in the UK by using online services to offer new products.
