New agreement for the export of cured meats to Canada

"This is a great result, the fruit of a complex and long negotiation conducted with extreme professionalism and dedication by our Ministry of Health, with the precious support of the European Commission", said the director of ASSICA, Davide Calderone.

"The openings obtained from the Canadian authorities - also some clarifications from the Ministry of Health a few days ago aimed at simplifying exports to the USA - to cured meats produced in factories located in the restricted areas, are an important breath of fresh air for all those who, due to the expansion of the area infected by ASF, were no longer in a position to satisfy the requirements for export to two of the main destination markets for Italian cured meat products", continued Calderone .

"I would like to extend my thanks to the Undersecretaries of Health and Agriculture, Marcello Gemmato and Patrizio Giacomo La Pietra, for the political support they have always guaranteed, to the Director of the DGISAN of the Ministry of Health, Ugo Della Marta, and to the Extraordinary Commissioner for ASF, Giovanni Filippini, for having obtained the approval of our counterparts, both for the high level of food safety of the production processes of Italian delicatessen products, and for the level of guarantees offered by the current strategy to combat ASF”.

"The hope now is that other countries will follow Canada's example and agree to sit at the negotiating table to reconsider the restrictions placed on our cured meats", concluded Calderone.
