Mexico suspends tariffs on poultry imports for 1 year

The opening of the market includes several poultry products and will be in force for a period of one year, according to the document. Also, there is no establishment of quotas set for the countries that are already allowed to ship their products to this market. The announcement made by the North American country is seen as a good opportunity for many of the major poultry producers in both North and South America, such as the USA and Brazil.
According to the president of the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), Ricardo Santin, Brazilian chicken meat exporters have increased their relevance among partners for the food security of Mexico.
“Brazil has complemented the Mexican demand for chicken meat, collaborating with the local industry, as in other opportunities. In this context, it is expected that our country will be able to increase the volumes for this destination”, analyzes Santin.
According to ABPA data, Mexico is currently the eighth largest importer of chicken meat in Brazil. Between January and April, the country imported 58,500 tonnes, up 128.6% from the same period in 2021, with 25,600 tonnes.
