Mexico receives a shipment of 25.5 tons of pork from Germany

Mexico reached a trade agreement with Germany to import pork during a meeting held in Berlin between the head of Mexico's The National Service of Health, Safety and Agroalimentary Quality (SENASICA), Enrique Sánchez Cruz, with the Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture of Germany, Herman Onko Aikens.

Mexico is looking into importing pork from new markets after the country imposed new tariffs ranging from 15 to 25% on about $3 billion worth of American pork, steel and other goods in retaliation to the 25% and 10% duties imposed by Trump's Administration on Mexican steel and aluminum, respectively.

Furthermore, Mexico's Minister of Economy Ildefonso Guajardot announced recently that the authorities will find new suppliers of pork from Europe.

According to data from the Mexican Ministry of Agriculture, Mexicans consume 2.11 million tons of pork annually, while the domestic production reaches 1.45 million tons, of which 105 thousand tons are exported. Mexico imports an annual average of 754 thousand tons of pork.
